Curiosity, put to work.

Curiosity gets me started.
Ingenuity gets it done.

Websites. Marketing. Technology. Training. And the occasional problem that wandered in without a category.

How I work

Start with the whole picture.

You don’t always need another specialist. Sometimes you need someone who can see the whole problem.

A website problem may actually be a marketing problem. A marketing problem may turn out to be a messaging problem. A technology problem may simply be that nobody has shown people an easier way to do the work.

That’s the kind of territory I like.

Make.

Websites and digital experiences built around what you actually need them to accomplish.

Improve.

Existing websites, marketing efforts, messaging and processes that could be doing a better job.

Connect.

Website, social media, advertising, content and analytics so they support a common goal instead of operating independently.

Teach.

Practical Microsoft Office training that helps people become more comfortable, capable and productive.

If your problem doesn’t fit neatly into one of those boxes, that’s okay. I’ve never been particularly limited by boxes.

Following the interesting bits

I’ve never been very good at being interested in just one thing.

Science and medicine can send me down a rabbit hole. So can human behavior and the psychology behind a good advertisement. Art history leads to interior design; gardening leads to cooking; technology leads to some obscure subject I suddenly need to understand.

I love animals—all of them—but I prefer the company of dogs and cats, and I’m hopeless around puppies. People always say you should make a career out of what you love. So far, no one has explained how I’m supposed to make a living kissing puppies.

There is usually coffee involved.

I admire curious minds, from Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson to the women who made their way in science when very few doors were open to them. I have a predilection for Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter and the X-Men, and a longstanding weakness for StarFleet Capt. Jean-Luc Picard’s particular combination of intelligence, integrity and quiet authority. My sense of humor was shaped, possibly beyond repair, by Monty Python, Bugs Bunny and SpongeBob. Godzilla needs no justification.

I suppose curiosity is the real hobby. I like finding things out. And I especially like making something from what I find.

Selected work

A few things I’ve helped make work.

Ideas are interesting.
Making them work is better.

The route here

How I Got Here

There wasn’t a master plan. I followed what interested me, learned what I needed, and kept finding new things I wanted to make work.

Science & Laboratory Work

Before websites, there were laboratories. I worked as a Laboratory Manager & Teaching Assistant, then in R&D at Procter & Gamble and Sandoz. I still approach problems like a scientist: develop a working theory, test it and let the evidence guide what comes next.

Early Web & Digital Work

I taught myself HTML and the web tools that followed, moving from desktop publishing and computer training into building websites and solving digital problems.

The Computer Lady

As personal computers became part of everyday life, I started teaching people how to use them. I discovered I was good at taking something that seemed complicated and making it understandable.

Marks Forge

For 13 years, I managed websites, eBay sales and online marketing for Chris Marks, an American Bladesmith Society (ABS) Master Smith. I also helped navigate the selection and onboarding process for his appearance on Forged in Fire. Chris passed away in 2020; helping share his craftsmanship remains a meaningful part of my story.

Graham Group

For more than a decade, I worked in professional web development, building and maintaining websites and expanding into the increasingly complicated world surrounding them.

Wild Blue Hare

I started Wild Blue Hare in 2007 to take on web, marketing, technology and consulting projects of my own. It gave me room to work across disciplines instead of staying in one specialty.

Fully Promoted / United Franchise Group

Today my work crosses web development, digital marketing, Microsoft 365, analytics, training, technical support and whatever unusual problem happens to land on my desk.

Let’s see what we can figure out

Bring an idea.
A problem.
Or a good question.

Website work, marketing, technology, Microsoft Office training, consulting, a creative collaboration or an interesting professional opportunity—I’d like to hear what you have in mind.
